FSU Professors Awarded Grant
Dr. Shirley Chao from Fayetteville State University's (FSU) College of Arts and Sciences, and Dr. Priscilla Manarino-Leggett from the School of Education recently were awarded a grant from The Junior League of Fayetteville. This grant will serve to expand the Raising a Reader Program which was established in 2008 at FSU through grants from the United Way of Cumberland County and the Target Corporation.

In collaboration with Cumberland County Partnership for Children, Drs. Chao and Manarino-Leggett will choose more centers to launch the Raising a Reader Program, a proven program to improve literacy skills in children.

FSU is the second-oldest public institution in North Carolina. A member of the University of North Carolina System, FSU has more than 6,300 students and offers degrees in 70 undergraduate and graduate degree programs. Chancellor James A. Anderson is the institution's 11th chief executive officer.
